"A military shotgun by L. Franchi."
— Inventory description.

"This rig couples increased stopping power with rapid fire capability."
— Upgraded inventory description.

The SPAS-12 (Sporting Purpose Automatic Shotgun 12 Gauge) is a multi-role convertible 12-gauge shotgun manufactured by the Italian company Franchi and designed for special military and police applications. The weapon is "convertible" in that it can be fired in either manual pump-action or gas-operated semi-automatic modes.

Dino Crisis[]

Regina can find Shotgun Parts to upgrade her Franchi PA3 to this weapon, making it more powerful. However, unless the Shotgun Stocks upgrade is equipped, it will have incredibly hard recoil, resulting in slow follow-up shots. Additionally, when the stock upgrade is equipped, she will shoulder it like a rifle instead of firing from the hip.

Prehistoric versions[]

Like all the other weapons, when playing with Regina's prehistoric costume, the SPAS-12 will have a different appearance.

Dino Crisis 2[]

Dylan Morton uses a SPAS-12 with futuristic synthetic furniture and no stock that he always fires in semi-automatic mode. Unlike in the previous game, the only available "upgrade" is an increase in total ammunition count.

Further Notes[]

  • The original version of Resident Evil 2 (called "Resident Evil 1.5") featured the SPAS-12 as a weapon. However, it isn't present in the final version, but its icon was used instead for the SPAS-12 with stock in Dino Crisis.
  • In CGI cutscenes, Dylan's SPAS-12 lacks its futuristic furniture and instead appears as a standard SPAS-12.
  • The use of the SPAS-12 is possibly a reference to the original Jurassic Park, which featured the SPAS-12 in use by game warden Robert Muldoon and paleontologist Alan Grant.
